Racism, a chronic  American disease

There was a time when White America could deny it’s nature. Now with the Trump administration in office, racism has become front and center. He made it apparent during his campaign that he did not fear the term bigot being attached to his name. The “new wave” for politicians is that of undeniable racism. No more are whites denying their racist ideologies. They have become obscenely bold. They say whatever comes to mind and spew discriminatory rhetoric without a filter. They do not care how you feel or think. The age of political correctness has died, with it has gone what little civility, manners or courtesy Americans had. Now rudeness, boorishness, racism, and hatred is once more becoming the norm. America is regressing to a time when it perceived itself as great, hence we “Make America Great Again”. Forgetting the stories of a time when Jim Crow laws ruled the land and black men, women and children were lynched for entertainment. However, in this regress, black men, women and children will not be lynched. Badges and uniforms take the place of white bed sheets as we are shot down by police.

In Syria we are fighting a war with ISIS but here African Americans now feel they are under siege from the white population. Recently I read of James Harris Jackson, a man who traveled from Maryland to New York with the goal of killing black people. He was successful. It is not known how many he has killed but one victim is for sure.  Timothy Caughman was stabbed to death and left in the street as Jackson walked to a nearby restaurant to clean himself up. Even worse is the justice system. All over the country we hear the news of innocent unarmed black men, women, and children being shot, strangled, lynched by the police while going about their daily activities only to be stopped. Many were walking, talking on their mobile, driving, sitting in their cars, engrossed in play in a playground not being a threat to anyone. Yet their lives were brutally taken by a state sanctioned murderer with a badge. Is that law enforcement? Or have the police of the USA been given the green light to shoot and kill as many black folks as possible? The green light comes without the fear of consequence and sure acquittal. By allowing this, law enforcement devalues the importance of black life, simply because it is black. This is not very different from the south where white men committed crimes against black folks and got away with it. Robert Chambliss was one of the sole bombers in the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in 1964.It took the lives of four little girls yet he was not indicted until almost the end of his life, 15 years after. Everyone within the community knew he was the one responsible for their deaths yet the law allowed him to live to a ripe old age and arrested him days before he died to pacify the Black community.

There was once a belief that America had made progress with its racism. America ushered in civil rights and then in foreign countries we made demands for human rights based on civil rights. How hypocritical we are, demanding that other countries respect human rights and threatening them with attacks and interferences we have no right making. Yet we treat out black population like they have no right to be alive, as if African Americans brought themselves onto this land.  We are regressing back in time to allow America to be racist again.
